De Moriaen

  • Dear guest,

For years De Moriaen has been a trusted house for all your business and private parties.

Since each party is unique everything is prepared in accordance with your personal wish.

After our initial contact over the phone or mail we will sit together in order to discuss the correct setting and menu for your family dinner, Communion or Confirmation party, surprise party, wedding or birthday party, baby shower, christening celebration, B2B reception, company seminar,...
Subsequently, we will provide you with a made-to-measure informal offer.

For your seated dinners our venue offers seating for 12 to 65 guests. If you have a reception or a walking dinner in mind, we can comfortably accommodate 120 people.

On sunny days, you can enjoy our beautiful south-oriented garden in the heart of Lier.

De Moriaen also has a catering service where you can come and pick up your ordered menu or dish of your choice.

Contact us and together we will look for the correct approach.

We look forward to welcoming you at De Moriaen!

    With culinary regards,
    Tom Van Looy

  • History

The mansion "De Moriaen" keeps the vivid history of Lier alive.

In 1691, the building was owned by the Jesuits and inhabited by the "Religieusen van de Beygaerde" – male beguines. Later the house was occupied by Benedictines. From 1763, the Town Secretary rented the residence and subsequently purchased it. The mansion remained in his family until the first quarter of the 19th century. During the next century – until its destruction in 1914 - the people from Lier could visit the apothecary of the Van der Wee family here.

In 1922, Miss Anna D'Hulst instructed architect Van Peborgh to construct the current master mansion. It was to become a "broad house" in neo-classicistic style.

From the atmospheric lounges you can enjoy wonderful views of the south-oriented garden. Through the splendid leaded glass ceiling a waterfall of light fills the house.
